The Mandate – INTERGENERATIONAL Movement

In preparation for this Mandate conference I came across this term, INTERGENERATIONAL.  It is a word that describes the interaction, the exchange between generations.  Here are a few scriptures that describe the Hebrew perspective on intergenerational engagement.

Psalm 145:4  One generation shall praise Your works to another, and shall declare Your mighty acts.

Joel 1:3  Tell your sons about it, and let your sons tell their sons, and their sons the next generation.

Joel 2:16,17  Gather the people, sanctify the congregation, assemble the elders, gather the children and the nursing infants. Let the Bridegroom come out of his room and the bride out of her bridal chamber….

Notice that in the Hebrew culture there was definite, intentional movement from generation to generation.  Joel mentions the inclusion of the elders, the sons, the children, and even the nursing infants.  The Israelites were a relational community where the children grew up int he culture they were becoming.  The children were not just casually included; they were intentionally drawn in, assimilated, and absorbed into the community. Each person was in a family, each family was in a tribe, and each tribe was in a nation.  No child or teenager was left out.  No elderly person was pushed aside.  Everyone was included in the process of community development.

It was the same in the New Testament church.  Acts 10 describes the entire household of Cornelius experiencing the power of God.  Scripture describes Lydia’s entire household coming to salvation (Acts 16).  Acts 16 also describes the salvation experience of the Philippian jailer and his entire household.  These households would have included the youngest to the oldest.  In Acts 21:5 Paul was leaving Tyre.  As he was departing, the men, their wives, and their children gathered on the beach to pray together.

Ephesians 5 and 6 makes it clear that all age groups were present when Paul’s letter was shared with the believers in Ephesus.  The children were there, listening to Paul’s instructions for them to obey and honor their fathers and mothers.

This week in our Mandate sessions we will be having a conversation about this INTERGENERATIONAL movement of kingdom ministry.  I hope to see you present.

THE MANDATE: CONVERGENCE

The Mandate is BACK!!!

May 2-4, 2018 The Mandate Conference will return to action.  “CONVERGENCE” is the theme.  We will be considering the convergence of the younger and older generations for maximum impact in our cities, regions, and nations.

There is a mighty generation of young, anointed, innovative leaders that God is raising up for this time.  And, there is a strong generation of seasoned, strategic, wise leaders that are highly enthusiastic about the emergence of such powerful, radical leaders in this season. TOGETHER we can and will accomplish much in extending the kingdom of God throughout the earth.

I am inviting you to experience The Mandate: Convergence as it happens at Cornerstone Christian Center in the south suburbs of Chicago.  Bryan Meadows and Jermone Glenn will be with us.  The hand of God is mighty on these two innovative leaders.  Koryn Hawthorne of The Voice will be with us.  Her voice expresses the love and power of God.  There will be evening sessions Wednesday through Friday.  Daytime sessions will be facilitated on Thursday and Friday.  Every session will be designed to express the heart of the Father to all of us.  And, there will be opportunity to connect with like-minded leaders from across this nation and around the world.

The GAME CHANGERS Are Here

I have been meditating on what it means to be a GAME CHANGER for the last week or so.  I believe this is something God is currently doing in the lives of many of His people.  In fact, I believe this is a possibility for any believer who will tap into the purpose of God by faith.

A GAME CHANGER is a visionary and an innovator.  This person will actually innovate new pathways in order to change the status quo.  They see new, improved ways of accomplishing things.  They are revolutionary, transformative leaders.  A GAME CHANGER doesn’t stop with a dream.  They are compelled to fulfill their dream by actually doing what is required to bring the dream into the realm of reality.

If you have a vision within your heart, you are no different than Henry Ford, Albert Einstein, Gandhi, Martin Luther King Jr., Oprah Winfrey, Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Mark Zuckerberg or anyone else who has ever changed the game and achieved uncommon success.  You may not have a vision to change the world, but neither did those individuals when they started.  They simply had a vision to change their little corner of the world.  Someone once said small hinges swing big doors.  The Bible tells us not to despise the day of small beginnings.  What begins as a small thing has huge potential for changing the world.  The GAME CHANGER takes one small step at a time, and moves in the process of forward advancement.  This person understands that time is always involved.  They must remain persistent, and they must practice endurance and perseverance.  They must be determined to remain diligent all through the process of development.  And, they must be courageous to ride out all of the uncertainties that come throughout the process.

God’s will for you to be a GAME CHANGER is in your spiritual DNA.  You were designed to rise-up in this generation, initiating the flow of your gifts, moving in the flow of God’s river, innovating the reformation of something you are skillful in.  The goal is for all people everywhere to benefit from your GAME CHANGING actions.

Gathering the Leaders

This Saturday, February 27th Sharpening Stone is hosting our initial gathering of 2016.  We are meeting at the Hilton Hotel in Oak Lawn, IL  The breakfast starts at 8:00am.  This is going to be a great time of connecting and networking and relating.  We call this “reclining at the table.”  It was the practice of Jesus for starting conversations and building relationships.

God is obviously up to something significant here at the start of 2016.  It is His glory to conceal a matter.  It is the glory of kings to search it out.  This Saturday’s session will be a time of searching out the heart and mind of our Father.  It seems like many have grown calloused and disinterested toward conferences, special meetings, and gatherings.  But, there is a fresh wind blowing.  A fresh and unique move of God is upon us.  As we come together this Saturday, we will be hungry for revelation, wisdom, clarity, and the power of God.  We are coming casual; we are coming without our facades; we are coming without our walls of personal protection; and we are coming without our titles and positions.  We are moving forward as brothers and sisters of the same tribe.

There is much to see, much to hear, and much to accomplish.  This Saturday’s session will serve as a portal of glory, power, clarity, and connecting.  Please call 708-756-3358 to reserve your place.  I hope to see you this Saturday morning.

SSMI-March2016

Unique

Lately I have been hearing several words in my spirit man.  One of those words is UNIQUE.  If you are UNIQUE you are unparalleled; not typical; highly unusual; and rare.  You are radically distinctive.  You are the kind of person who departs from the ordinary, the usual, or the expected.

You don’t become the best by being like the rest.  There must be a unique quality about you.   Think of some UNIQUE celebrities.  Francis Ford Coppola made the Godfather movie, and then expanded the saga into two more films, eventually becoming known as the Godfather Trilogy.  James Cameron set himself apart as a movie maker with Titanic.  Then he took it to another level with Avatar, a UNIQUE experience in movie making.  Steve Jobs was the UNIQUE creator of Apple, while Bill Gates established Microsoft Windows.  Eleven Presley was a UNIQUE entertainer that changed rock and roll forever.  The Beatles brought about a music revolution in the 1960’s.  The Motown record label cranked out hit after hit as a UNIQUE business venture based in urban Detroit.  Michael Jackson was one of the most UNIQUE music artists ever.

Did you know that Jesus was UNIQUE?  “No one ever spoke like this man,” was the testimony given about Him.  It was said that Jesus taught as “one having authority, and not as the scribes.”

In Acts 2, Peter defined the UNIQUE move of God that was happening in Jerusalem on the Day of Pentecost.  Peter quoted from Joel, “This is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel.”

Jewish trouble-makers in Thessalonica attacked Paul and his team as, “these who have turned the world upside down.”  There was something so authentic, so real, so accurate, so clear, and so powerful about Paul and his team ….. they were UNIQUE.

I believe the call of God is upon us to realize our UNIQUENESS in our generation.  God made you to be UNIQUELY you, the only one of your kind.  The creativity and innovation of the true and living God is in our spiritual DNA.  It is what makes us UNIQUE.

Patterns

The little foxes spoil the vine, but the little patterns build your life.

PATTERN:  Something that happens in a regular and repeated way.

What you do every day matters much more than what you do once in a while.  Successful people are patterned people.  They tend to keep doing the little things each and every day. They develop healthy habits.

Proverbs 15:24 tells us, “The way of life winds upward for the wise, that he may turn away from hell below.”

As you live your life in the power of wisdom, it is like you are walking a path that is winding its way around a tall mountain.  Each time you pass around the mountain, you are a little higher than you were previously.  That is the power of living your life by patterns.  The patterns you develop in your life are going to cause you to climb continuously higher and higher.

Here is what healthy patterns will do for you …..

You will overcome your internal resistance

You will overcome your external adversity

You will overcome your self-doubt

You will be empowered to block out distractions

You will consistently take action on what is needed for your forward advancement

One of the powerful and most beneficial patterns to be developed is your early morning start time.  This is the time between waking up early and facing the rest of the world.  It is a time for reflection and thought, Bible reading, meditation, worship, and prayer.  This is the time in which you can include some good exercise for your body.  You will also pay attention to eating a healthy breakfast.  And, your early morning pattern will help you focus, eliminating all distractions.

The Song of Solomon 2:15 is the verse that describes the little foxes spoiling the vine.  But, verse 14 provides the context.  This person is moving into the secret place to see their lover’s face, and hear their lover’s voice.  They desire intimacy.  Then verse 15 describes the little foxes spoiling the vine, with its tender grapes.  The context describes our desire to draw close to the Lord, and then allowing the little things of life to distract us and pull us away.  We usually look for the big things to throw us off.  However, it is these “little foxes” that really mess us up.

The positive side of the little things is to realize that the little patterns will work for you to build your life to be everything you desire.  Your success is all wrapped up in the little things you consistently do every day.

Powerful Resources for 2016

God is releasing some powerful resources for us to utilize during 2016. These resources are designed to impact all things pertaining to the earth realm ….. from the creative arts, to business and finance, to the governmental sector and politics, to the work of the ministry. Excellent leaders are emerging, just like cream rising to the top. Prophetic words we have received in the past about unknown people emerging to be influential and significant, are now being fulfilled over and over and over again. 2016 ….. a time for us to be DECISIVE and RELEVANT!!!

Decisive

As I was meditating about entering 2016, I saw the word, DECISIVE as something that would be very crucial for my life and leadership, and I think it is true for you as well.  The Lord is calling us to be DECISIVE in 2016 and beyond.

When you are DECISIVE the following factors begin to move in your life …..

You have the power or quality of deciding something

You are making a decision with confidence, and then sticking with it; quickly and firmly

You are not waffling back and forth

You are settling a matter

You are determining what the end result will be

You are putting an end to controversy

You are not hesitating

You are being resolute ….. determined

You are commanding your day, your week, your month, and your season

You are confirming that something is clear and obvious

You are recognizing that something is crucial or most important

Let’s be DECISIVE as we move through 2016!

Feeling Overwhelmed???

I am in a Master’s program, in pursuit of a degree. I just finished a particular class that I didn’t care for too much. At the end of the class we had about two weeks to write our final paper. Well, I procrastinated, putting it off until the last few days before the paper was due. I was feeling overwhelmed, even to the point where I felt somewhat paralyzed.  I didn’t want to start writing, nor did I feel like writing. This was not good for me. Procrastination is an enemy that must be conquered. And, piled on top of the procrastination and being overwhelmed was the feeling of failure.

Here are some defining statements about the word OVERWHELM …..

To affect (someone) very strongly
To cause (someone) to have too many things to deal with
To defeat (someone or something) completely
To cover over completely : submerge
To overcome by superior force or numbers
To overpower in thought or feeling

Synonyms for the word are:
crush; defeat; deluge; destroy; engulf; overcome; overpower; overrun; rout; submerge; swamp; bury; conquer; drown; massacre; overflow; overthrow; smother; thrash; total; whip

OVERWHELM comes from an old English word meaning “to turn upside down.” It is describing a boat that has been washed over and overturned by a giant wave of water.

So, what do you do with this crushing, suffocating feeling? Angie Merrill provides a few ideas in an article she wrote for Relevant Magazine.

Maybe we need to find some balance. Balance the negative emphasis with a positive emphasis.

Refuse to dwell on the issue, and begin to DO something that breaks you out of that smothering feeling.

Stir up the power of hope. There is tremendous power in hope. And, it is contagious.

Let’s Use These Tools

We are living in a generation that enjoys full use of the internet. The internet as most of us know it, has occupied an important place in our lives for only about twenty years. It was opened to us in about 1995 when Windows 95 was introduced. It is absolutely stunning to consider how much difference the internet has made in our lives in just twenty years. Can you begin to imagine the potential moving forward?

That is why we should be considering all forms of social media as tools that have been provided by God. Social media tools provide all kinds of ways for us to publish the gospel of the kingdom, extending the kingdom of God throughout the earth. Any one of us can use Periscope at an time of day. We have the opportunity to talk directly into the camera on our smart phones, and we have a potential world-wide audience of millions. Drop a pic and message on Instagram, and it goes around the world. Present a quick thought or scripture on Twitter, and anyone can tap into your idea. Share your thoughts and pics on Facebook, and the world has the opportunity to see into your world.

These are tools that we can utilize for the glory of the true and living God. Let’s use these tools!
